Hosted & Organized by : Korea Heritage Agency 7. Contact : +82-2-3011-1706, 1716 <About Exhibition> Crafts born from the hands of artisans link tradition to the present and connect nature with people. This exhibition opens the door to time, inviting visitors to encounter the voices and philosophies of today’s artisans through video. The sound of wood being cut, the touch of thread being woven, the resonance of Hanji being pounded—all fill the space of Nodeul Gallery, offering a sensory experience of standing “within the flow.” This marks the first step onto the bridge of connection. This exhibition seeks to capture the philosophical symbolism of (and connection bound into) the knot within an artistic context. Through the frameworks of “the time of nature,” “the time of the artisan,” and “the time of the work,” it explores the continuity of traditional craft, opening up fresh ways to rediscover its meaning today. ○ The Time of Nature - Part 1 reveals how materials, through the grain of nature, are transformed into crafts by the hands of artisans, along with the time and meaning embedded in them. The grain of wood, before it becomes a piece of furniture, is not only to be admired with the eyes: it invites us to sense its temporality through touch and breath. Artisans spend long hours facing the wood, honoring its unique character and seeking the beauty innate within it. ○ The Time of the Artisan - Part 2 highlights the hands of artisans, which capture the journey of natural materials as they are transformed into works of art. Their fingertips carry memories and bear the traces of life. The time of the artisan is also the time that binds generations together. Within this space, the lineage of master and apprentice, legacies passed down through families, and the memories inscribed in each artisan’s life unfold. ○ The Time of the Work - Part 3 explores how works born from the hands of artisans are newly interpreted within contemporary life, illuminating new paths into the future. Fading traditions are rediscovered, and through their encounters with modern design sensibilities, a new language of craft emerges. In this way, visitors are invited to reflect on the meaning of craftsmanship today and, through participatory programs, directly experience the present and future of craft. <Participating National Intangible Cultural Heritage Certified Trainees> ○ Gakjajang Calligraphic Engraving - Lee Maeng Ho ○ Gannil Horsehair Hat Making - Yang Yun Hee ○ Nakhwajang Pyrography - Kim You Jin ○ Nubijang Quilting - Kim Eun Ju, Lee Tae Sun, Yu Ji Yu ○ Dancheongjang Ornamental Painting - Kwak Seon Hye, Bang Hyo Ju, Ahn Eu Gene, Hong Bo Ra ○ Maedeupjang Decorative Knotting - Kim Si Jae, Bae In Sook ○ Bulhwajang Buddhist Painting - Jeong Il Oh ○ Somokjang Wood Furniture Making - Kang Moon Su, Kim Dong Kyu, Kim Jae Jeong, Noh Jin Taek, Park Jong Seo, Lee Myung Taek, Yii Jae Ung, Yang Seog Joong, So Joong Han, Chung Jong Sang, Chung Chae Hun ○ Akgijang Musical Instrument Making - Choi Ye Chan ○ Ipsajang Silver or Gold Inlaying - Kim Sun Jung ○ Yeomsaekjang Natural Dyeing - Yu Bi ○ Wanchojang Sedge Weaving - Park Sun Deok ○ Okjang Jade Craft - Cho Sang Ok ○ Seokjang Stone Masonry - Lee Baek Hyun ○ Seonjajang Fan Making - Chang Hyung Jung ○ Jasujang Embroidery - Kim Hyun Hee, Kwak Bok Hee, Noh Hyun Min, Lee Jung Eui ○ Jangdojang Ornamental Knife Making - Park Gun Young, Park Nam Jung, Han Jun Hyuck ○ Chimseonjang Needlework - Kwon Young A, Shin Myoung Ok, Han Mi Jeong ○ Chiljang Lacquerware Making - Kwon Young Jin ○ Hansan Mosi Jjagi Fine Ramie Weaving of Hansan - Kim Sun Hee, Lee Hye Rang

HERITAGE_THE FUTURE FANTASY - Inherited Legacy, Imagined Futures
1. Dates : Aug 23 – Sep 17, 2025 (Closed on Mondays) 2. Hours : 10:00 - 20:00 (Last Entry: 19:00) 3. Venue : DDP Exhibition Hall 2, Design Dulegil B 4. Host : Korea Heritage Service National Heritage Industry Development Team, Shin Sunghee, Kim Younghee, Park Jiyoon, Park Jinkyoung 5. Organizer : Korea Heritage Agency Cultural Heritage Project Department Kim Soonho, Lee Ji Yeon, Choi Hyojin, Kim Juyoung, Bak Jihyun “How should the heritage of this land be defined?” Heritage has long been regarded as something to be preserved, frozen in time. However, heritage is not simply an object that bears witness to the past. It is a collective memory that traverses eras and a cultural product of a community’s accumulated imagination about the future. We encounter this ‘old future’ when the traces of time that have passed penetrate the sensibilities of today and reasoning for tomorrow. Heritage is not the end of the past, but the potential of imagination about the future. In 2024, the South Korean government changed the terminology and concept from ‘cultural property’ to ‘national heritage,’ setting a new institutional milestone regarding national heritage. This is a declaration that the country will expand heritage from merely an object of preservation into a public asset that all citizens can enjoy, imagine, and reconstruct. This is also a commitment to develop a new heritage system that encompasses the memories of future generations, alongside cultural, natural, and intangible heritage. The HERITAGE: THE FUTURE FANTASY exhibition was planned in this transitional phase, interpreting the significance of heritage through audiovisual and digital senses. Through this exhibition, media art and video materials that have been accumulated over the years by the Korea Heritage Service and the Korea Heritage Agency are woven into a single narrative. The aim is to reimagine national heritage as sustainable content, which combines tangible heritage, media art, performances, and kinetic art. The exhibition shines a new light on the potential of cultural, natural, and intangible Heritage of Korea. The magnificent records written on the Uigwe (The Royal Protocols of the Joseon Dynasty); the radiant light and glistening water of Korea’s landscapes; the dignified touch and craftsmanship of traditional artisans; and the flowing wave of continuity embodied in heritage all raise the questions: “What memories will we inherit?”, “To what future can these memories lead?” Heritage no longer dwells in the past. This exhibition proposes new possibilities for heritage through a combination of digital sensibilities, expanded temporality, and responsive technology and imagination. In HERITAGE: THE FUTURE FANTASY, national heritage is not static within the time frame but is on a journey towards a fantastical future. ○ INTRO ○ SECTION 1 - ENDLESS DOCUMENT ○ SECTION 2 - ETERNAL LANDSCAPE ○ SECTION 3 - INFINITE MASTERPIECE ○ SECTION 4 - TIMELESS LEGACY INTERACTIVE ZONE ○ OUTRO ○ DESIGN DULEGIL GOODS SHOP
